This data protection statement applies to the main page of the Language Bank of Finland, which contains general information, and its sub-pages which pertain to specific customer groups or services. The purpose of the pages is to describe to you how and why your personal data are processed by the Language Bank of Finland.
The personal data processed by the Language Bank of Finland are divided into three main categories: personal data needed for using a range of automated services, personal data stored in conjunction with customer service activities and personal data included in the corpora stored in the Language Bank of Finland.
Unless otherwise stated with regard to a specific type of personal data, the controller of the personal data processed by the Language Bank of Finland is the University of Helsinki:
University of Helsinki
PO Box 3
00014 UNIVERSITY OF HELSINKI
The Language Bank of Finland complies with the GÉANT Data Protection Code of Conduct.
With regard to personal data included in corpora, the Language Bank of Finland and CSC serve, as a rule, as the processors of personal data on behalf of a separate data controller. However, the Language Bank of Finland also responds to queries concerning corpora and, when necessary, conveys your questions to the controller. Further information:
The Office of the Data Protection Ombudsman website has a page on the rights of data subjects in different situations: https://tietosuoja.fi/en/what-rights-do-data-subjects-have-in-different-situations.
If the Language Bank of Finland processes your personal data on the basis of consent given by you, you have a right to withdraw such consent.
You have the right to request the erasure of your personal data on the following grounds:
The right to erasure does not apply when the processing of personal data is necessary for compliance with a legal obligation to which the University is subject or if the processing is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in the University. Therefore, this right does not, in principle, apply to the personal data controlled by the University. The storage and erasure of data is conducted in compliance with the archiving plan of the University and the data storage periods required by legislation.
The right to erasure does not apply to situations when erasing the data prevents or seriously impairs the processing for scientific research purposes.
You have the right to restrict the processing of your personal data under the following conditions:
You have the right to receive the personal data concerning you, which you have provided to the University, in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable format and have the right to transmit those data to another controller without hindrance from the University, where the legal grounds for the processing are based on consent or a contract, and the processing is carried out by automated means.
You have the right to object, on grounds relating to your particular situation, at any time to the processing of personal data concerning you when the legal basis for processing is the performance of a task carried out in the public interest, the exercise of official authority or legitimate interest. In such case, your data can only be processed if the controller demonstrates compelling legitimate grounds for the processing.
You have the right to subject the legality of the University’s activities to a review by the Data Protection Ombudsman.
