Promoting open science is important, but we face many challenges when dealing with sensitive data, copyrights, and documenting and publishing resources. This meetup aims to raise discussion around issues like dataset publication, open access resources and open publication of other important research materials – meanwhile offering some potential solutions.

Mikael Laakso is an Associate professor in Information studies at Tampere University.
Mikael’s research focuses on scholarly publishing and communication very broadly, where one consistent theme has been research related open access publishing and open science practices more generally. In his talk he will give insight into some examples of how one can conduct research-on-research to gain insight on knowledge development within various research disciplines.
Mietta Lennes works as a Project Planner for the Language Bank of Finland (Kielipankki) at the University of Helsinki. Mietta’s talk is titled Licenses and data protection in the Language Bank of Finland. She will present an overview of the current possibilities in the Language Bank for depositing and sharing research data in case the content cannot be made publicly available, e.g., due to personal data.

Pyry Kantanen is a Research Assistant in the Turku Data Science Group at University of Turku. He will talk about publishing open source research software, and about the rOpenGov project offering R tools for open government data research.
