CLARIN Café: JOHD Special Collection on Language Dataset Reuse

24.6.2026 15.0017.00

General Information

The CLARIN Café dedicated to the Journal of Open Humanities Data Special Collection ‘Language Data Reuse: Opportunities, Challenges and Best Practices’ will bring together contributors and participants to discuss practical experiences, methodological questions, and infrastructural challenges surrounding the reuse of language data across the humanities. The event aims to create a broader conversation on how different types of mono- and multilingual language resources, e.g. corpora, lexical resources, speech data, dialect data, historical datasets, and benchmarks for large language models, can be effectively reused, adapted, and extended for new research purposes.

The discussion will explore recurring themes emerging across the collection, such as interoperability and standardisation, the sustainability of legacy resources, methodological reuse, adaptation of datasets to new technological contexts, and the role of repository infrastructures in enabling discoverability and long-term reuse.

The Café will also provide space to reflect on less successful reuse cases, barriers to reuse, and recommendations for data creators seeking to maximise the future reuse potential of language datasets. By connecting experiences from different subfields and modalities, the event aims to foster exchange between researchers, data curators, and infrastructure providers working on sustainable and reusable language resources.

Target Audiences

This Café is particularly suitable for those working with language data, such as linguistics and language scholars, DH scholars, LT and scholars, speech technology scholars, literary scholars, as well as language teachers, translators, and lexicographers.
