Description

The main objective of this deliverable is to understand the research practices of SSH scholars with AI-based tools and determine how the resources that will become available through the RI can enhance their work tasks.

To this end, we conducted a study with SSH scholars based in Finland on the use of AI-based tools. Since the use of AI-based tools is relatively new, there is a paucity of research analyzing how researchers support their work tasks with these resources.

The study was conducted during Q1-Q2/2026 and a preliminary analysis of its results was presented during the DARIAH-FI online plenary held on 21 August 2026. Both social sciences and humanities scholars in different career stages took part in the study, which focused on analyzing the use of GenAI tools to support sensemaking of open research data.

Overall, the study provides a deeper understanding of the research tasks of SSH scholars with AI-based tools and the support needs derived from the use of these resources in their work. The study was submitted for publication during Q3/2026 and will also be presented in the upcoming Informaatiotutkimuksen päivät 2026 (Oulu, 10-11 November).

A new study focusing on the perceptions and practices of SSH scholars in relation to the use of AI-based tools to support the research process from a more general perspective is currently under development. It is expected that this new study will be ready by Q2/2027.
