Description of the personal data

Types of personal data in the Resource

The dataset contains public social media posts, including

  • the username of the poster of the message
  • nickname
  • time of the post
  • text of the post
  • images, links, music, or other users’ posts attached to the post (if any)
  • the URL of the original post, and
  • platform-specific data on the post’s engagement metrics.

All the aforementioned details are also shown in the public web interfaces of the platforms. 

The author of the original message may also have disclosed sensitive information (about themselves), such as race or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs, trade union membership, or a natural person’s sexual behavior or orientation; or information regarding a criminal conviction or offense.

Categories of data subjects

  • Candidates in the Finnish presidential election of the year 2024 (9 people in total) and other individuals they have mentioned in their social media posts (text, photo, or video) between January 1 and February 11, 2024
  • Users who posted comments on news articles about the presidential election on Helsingin Sanomat and Yle.fi, as well as users who participated in election-related discussions on Twitter/X between January 1 and February 11, 2024

Data protection terms and conditions for this Resource

In these data protection terms and conditions, End-User means the party acting as the controller for the Resource received, in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679. Depending on the case and the purpose of Resource use, End-User may therefore mean the CLARIN service user’s employer or organisation (e.g., a university, university of applied sciences or other research organisation) or the service user personally.

The End-User understands that when receiving the Resource, it becomes a controller, as referred to in the data protection legislation. The End-User must ensure that it complies with the applicable data protection legislation when processing personal data.

The purpose of use of personal data

  • The Resource may only be used for the research purpose described in the research plan approved by the Controller.

Location and transfer of the personal data

  • Personal data may not be processed outside the European Economic Area.

When you start using this Resource, share the title of your project that is understandable to the general public as well as the link to the publicly available privacy notice (see instructions). This information will be published on the website of the Language Bank of Finland.
