SUMMARY:CLARIN Café: Data Citation With CLARIN (Part I)
DESCRIPTION:General Information\nIn this CLARIN Café\, we present the recent CLARIN Dataset Citation Guidelines on how CLARIN language resources and technologies\, such as language corpora\, datasets\, and tools\, should be properly cited in scholarly work. We discuss how the CLARIN guidelines were developed and how they differ from other existing recommendations\, such as FORCE11’s Joint Declaration of Data Citation Principles. We will provide use cases showing how the citations of certain CLARIN corpora and tools can be made to conform to the guidelines\, with a focus on potentially problematic examples. We then present how CLARIN repositories support dataset citation in the form of citation instructions and discuss the citation of dynamic datasets. We then survey how members of CLARIN have thus far cited resources in abstracts published in past CLARIN proceedings. We discuss how citation instructions are presented in the author guidelines of prominent journals that focus on the creation of language resources. \nFinally\, we open up the floor to discussions with the audience. Depending on background and work experience\, we will exchange on use cases and bottlenecks. \nWe plan to organise a follow-up Café on Data Citation later in the year with representatives from scientific journals and sister research infrastructure to provide further discussion and gain insights on best practices and limiting factors when it comes to data citation. \nTarget Audiences\nAll welcome\, though the Café may be particularly relevant to researchers in linguists and language sciences\, digital humanities\, LT and \, Social sciences\, Speech technology\, History\, and practitioners in the sector and in data science. \nHow to Join\nPlease register for free using this link in order to receive the meeting room details. \nTo help us tailor the Café\, please provide details about your own background and your questions upon registration. \nProgramme\n\nWelcome\nPresentation of CLARIN ERIC citation guidelines (Jakob Lenardič\, 15 min)\nThe (in)visibility of citation instructions across CLARIN repositories (Jakob Lenardič\, 5 min)\nThe citation of CLARIN datasets in practice (Jakob Lenardič\, 10 min)\nCitation instructions in big name journals and conferences (Jakob Lenardič\, 5 min)\nSupport for dynamic dataset citation (Martin Matthiesen\, 10 min)\nAudience Q&A (all\, 40 min)\nWrap-Up

SUMMARY:CLARIN Café: JOHD Special Collection on Language Dataset Reuse
DESCRIPTION:General Information\nThe CLARIN Café dedicated to the Journal of Open Humanities Data Special Collection ‘Language Data Reuse: Opportunities\, Challenges and Best Practices’ will bring together contributors and participants to discuss practical experiences\, methodological questions\, and infrastructural challenges surrounding the reuse of language data across the humanities. The event aims to create a broader conversation on how different types of mono- and multilingual language resources\, e.g. corpora\, lexical resources\, speech data\, dialect data\, historical datasets\, and benchmarks for large language models\, can be effectively reused\, adapted\, and extended for new research purposes. \nThe discussion will explore recurring themes emerging across the collection\, such as interoperability and standardisation\, the sustainability of legacy resources\, methodological reuse\, adaptation of datasets to new technological contexts\, and the role of repository infrastructures in enabling discoverability and long-term reuse. \nThe Café will also provide space to reflect on less successful reuse cases\, barriers to reuse\, and recommendations for data creators seeking to maximise the future reuse potential of language datasets. By connecting experiences from different subfields and modalities\, the event aims to foster exchange between researchers\, data curators\, and infrastructure providers working on sustainable and reusable language resources. \nTarget Audiences\nThis Café is particularly suitable for those working with language data\, such as linguistics and language scholars\, DH scholars\, LT and scholars\, speech technology scholars\, literary scholars\, as well as language teachers\, translators\, and lexicographers. \nHow to Join\nPlease register for free using this link in order to receive the meeting room details. \nFurther details about the event

SUMMARY:ASTIN: Language Technologies in the Nordic Countries 2026
DESCRIPTION:In the light of the present security situation in Europe\, the need for digital autonomy has become significantly more pronounced. Recent Nordic initiatives in language technology and artificial intelligence thus become all the more important and must be highlighted and continued. We must also ensure that the new solutions enabled by these technologies are available in all languages in the Nordic region. \nThis conference addresses the challenges and opportunities that the technological development brings to the Nordic language community. It brings together key players from research and development and from language policies\, including politicians\, the Nordic language banks\, language committees\, language technology companies\, public authorities\, media representatives and language communities. The programme is organised around four themes: \n\nSmall languages and large models\nData\, data\, data\nThe user perspective: from model to use. \nNordic collaboration and strategic autonomy\n\nThe conference is organized by the University of Helsinki and ASTIN (the Working Group for Language Technology in the Nordic Region). It aims to include all Nordic languages and language communities in the ongoing efforts in language technology in the Nordic countries. \nThe presentations will be held in Scandinavian languages and English.
